If this is the first synthetic hair wig you own, then you might want to read up on how to best care for it. There are many who treat their wigs in the same way they treat their natural hair, but this may cause damage to your wig. That is, you can’t just toss your wig in the sink and scrub it, there are better ways to clean it.

When it come to cleaning your wig, it really depends on how much you use it and the condition of the environment in which it is worn. For example, wearing your wig on hot, sunny days will cause it to lose its sheen much quicker. You don’t need to clean your wig after each use, after every 6 to 12 wears is perfectly fine.

You want to start by brushing out your wig using a wig brush, regular brushes can damage the fibers. Fill your sink with warm water and add just a little bit of wig shampoo as hair shampoo might leave an unwanted residue. Be gentle with your wig and allow the water filter through it by gently agitating your wig. Let your wig soak for a minute or two and rinse it off with cool, clean water. Gently squeeze out any excess water, apply conditioner and rinse again. Let the hair dry, don’t brush it when it is wet.
