First, it’s important to wash and condition the hair. That seems like a given, but when a wig is worn for weeks, like the higher quality wigs can with the proper adhesive, care is important in keeping the hair looking nice. Although you likely shower daily, you don’t need to wash the wig as often as you need to wash your hair. It only needs to be washed every two to three weeks as opposed to every other day or once a week as we would do with our natural hair.

The kind of shampoo and conditioner used matters. Don’t run into your local grocery store and pick up the same shampoo and conditioner you use on your hair. As you’re looking for the right products to use on your wig, know if the hair is synthetic or human hair. Choose a shampoo and conditioner that is formulated for that type of wig.
