Showering with your Synthetic and Human Hair Wigs, Part 3

29th Jan 2015

In caring for your synthetic or human hair wig, there are several things that are different than caring for the hair on your head. In part 1, we looked at choosing the right shampoo and conditioner for the best results when washing. Part 2, we looked at how to wash the wig and the best way to dry it. In this blog, the best daily practice is for getting ready, when wearing your wig for more than a few days. At some point during that time, you’ll need to bathe. Something you don’t want to do is get the wig and your hair wet in the shower. Getting your natural hair dry isn’t as easy when wearing the wig and you don’t want to allow your natural hair stay wet under the wig. As you can develop problems, talked about here.

Protect your hairline when showering. Gently tie your hair up and put either a shower cap, being sure to keep your hairline dry. If a shower cap won’t do the trick, tie a hair wrap on, or something that will protect the hairline and keep the water off of it.

Don’t put your head under the shower head. Even if you have the shower cap on, you don’t want to risk your natural hair getting wet.

Also, when you wash your face, you may want to tie off your hairline to ensure the hairline will stay dry as you clean your face, either in the shower or at the sink.

After showering, check your hairline to be sure there is no lifting from the skin before heading out the door. It is a small thing to check for, but could cause embarrassment for you if you don’t check it.
